Seed-phrase safety checklist

Understand what a seed is. Usually 12 or 24 words that can rebuild your wallet. Anyone with the words can move funds. It is not a password customer support can reset.

Plan offline capture. Pen and paper or a purpose-built metal backup—not screenshots, email drafts, chat apps, or cloud notes.

Confirm the wallet UI is official. Navigate from a bookmark you created yourself. Search ads and Discord/Telegram links are common phishing vectors.

Write it once, carefully, offline. Check word order and spelling against the device screen (while the screen is still showing the phrase).

Store it away from the device. A thief with both phone and sticky note wins easily.

Never type the seed into a website that claims to “validate,” “sync,” “claim,” or “reverse” anything. Viewing public chain data never requires your seed.

Test restore with a throwaway wallet first so you learn the flow before relying on it for real funds.

No “support agent” ever needs your seed. Real teams do not DM asking for recovery words. That request is a documented scam pattern.

Treat airdrop / “verify ownership by pasting words” prompts as hostile. They contradict how self-custody works.

If you use multi-location or split schemes, keep a plan you can execute under stress. Complexity creates new failure modes.

Review physical storage periodically (readable ink, intact plate, known location)—without photographing the words.
