- Buy / obtain from a channel you can explain. Literacy focus: understand why “pre-initialized” devices or devices that arrive with a seed card already filled are a classic risk story. You should generate the seed on the device you control.
- Firmware only from official sources. Use the vendor’s documented update path—not a file from a forum DM.
- Seed stays offline. Write it on the medium you planned; never type it into a website to “activate” the device.
- Verify the address on the device screen before sharing a receive address or confirming a send.
- Test with a small amount first (receive, then send) before moving anything you care about.
